Thornton Adjustable Positioner (TAP)

Thornton Adjustable Positioner
The Thornton Adjustable Positioner is another example of a well-designed and researched laboratory-fabricated appliance. It is a simple and effective oral appliance available for the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Custom molded from each patients dental impressions, the TAP is a small plastic device, similar to an orthodontic retainer, that is worn in the mouth during sleep. By adjusting the appliance to reposition the jaw, soft throat tissue is prevented from obstructing the airway, thus eliminating snoring and improving breathing. Not only does this provide the patient with restful, uninterrupted sleep, it allows their bed partner a quiet night as well. In the more severe cases where the TAP does not reduce all sleep apnea symptoms, it can be used in conjunction with CPAP at greatly reduced air pressures. The TAP is easy to wear, and is custom designed to provide the patient with a comfortable fit. Patients simply have impressions taken and return a few weeks later to try on their TAP and take it home. With proper use, the TAP may eliminate snoring and improve nighttime breathing, resulting in a great nights sleep and the start of a healthier lifestyle!
